Dr. Avi Shainhouse
Originally from Toronto, Canada, Dr. Shainhouse has been in the dental field for over two decades. He appreciates using his technical expertise to help people and always takes a practical approach to dentistry, combining his interest in working with his hands with his goal of helping others. Why Did You Decide to Become a Periodontist?
Dr. Shainhouse always knew he wanted to work in health care, especially since his uncle is a dentist and his father is a physician, which gave him early exposure to the field. He was drawn to dentistry because it allows him to be hands-on while taking care of others’ needs.
Where Did You Study Periodontics?
Dr. Shainhouse attended York University before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Western Ontario. He went on to pursue advanced training in periodontics and has earned professional credentials as a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Other than being an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, he remains committed to continuing education to stay up to date with the latest advances in the field.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Away from the office, Dr. Shainhouse loves spending time with his wife and visiting siblings, nieces, and nephews across the continent. His interests include hockey, swimming, travel, and music. As a Toronto native, he follows the Maple Leafs, which can be difficult to do in hockey-mad New England.
